16 Gymnastic Exercises for your Horse.
From the popular series originally published in “Practical Horseman”, Leslie Webb’s progressive program of 15 individual gymnastic exercises are easy to understand and remember, allowing riders and their horses to focus on correctly developing one skill at a time.
Based on common manoeuvres and figures – such as straight lines, circles, transitions, squares, diamonds, and octagons – horses learn to “tune-in” to their riders’ seats and improve their rhythm, balance, strength, straightness, and flexibility, while riders develop systematic warm-up and schooling routines to use every time they ride or compete.
In addition, each exercise can detect and correct underlying problems that may be hindering horse-and-rider teams, both at home and in the show ring. Award-winning rider Leslie Webb specializes in teaching junior and young riders. She conducts clinics throughout the United States and runs a training facility in Bakersfield, California.
Author Notes: Leslie Webb began riding hunters and jumpers as a teenager, changing disciplines and beginning her study of dressage in 1978. Webb spent twelve years under the tutelage of Erich Bubbel, three-time Austrian Olympic coach, developing her training systems for horse and rider, and her winning skills in the arena. She now specializes in teaching junior and young riders, conducting clinics throughout the United States and running a training facility in Bakersfield, California.
